Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is crucial to improving student achievement.
Uni High has an active parent community. Parents retain four seats (25%) on University High School's School Site Council (SSC). The SSC, which is a decision-making council comprised of teachers, students, staff, and parents, meets once a month after school at 3:15pm (check school calendar for exact dates posted soon). Parents and other community members are welcome at these meetings.
Our English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a part of our School Site Council.
In addition to ELAC and SSC, parents serve on our Uni High Charter Governing Council and as part of the Uni High Education Foundation.
Title I
"Title I" generally refers to the federal compensatory education services and funding provided to students and schools under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Title I Schools are schools that have a large proportion (generally over 40%) of students who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. University High School has over 75% free and reduced lunch qualified students. Please click here to read information on income eligibility for the National School Lunch Program. Aside from receiving free or reduced-price meals, students who qualify for Title I services also qualify for a variety of other benefits:
Fee Waivers for PSAT, SAT, SAT II (Subject), and ACT tests
Partial Fee Waivers for Advanced Placement (AP) Tests
Schools also receive additional funding based on the percentage of their student population who qualify for Title I Services. These funds are used to increase and facilitate parent involvement at the school, and upgrade the instructional program throughout the school. University High School details how those funds are spent in the annual:
ELAC
The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is composed of the parents of the English Learners at Uni High and discuss issues concerning the English Learner community. Many times, these issues are school wide issues like attendance. All parents, whether they are parents of English Learners or not, are welcome to attend and participate in the meetings. There are five elected officers that will make decisions and submit recommendations to the School Site Council. Click on the ELAC link on the top left to be directed to the ELAC page and find out more about our meetings.
Election will be held on September 4th @ 4pm in Stivelman Theater

As per district guidelines, the Parent Compact and Uni High Title 1 Parent Engagement Policy was mailed to all parents on October 4, 2019 and they are available printed in the parent center. The District Title 1 Parent Engagement Policy was mailed home on November 15th, 2019. Additionally, there are copies of all documents here on the website. Thank you all for your participation thus far in the development of these documents and thank you in advance for your continued work on these documents to keep them relevant to all of our stakeholders. Thank you!
AFFILIATED CHARTER RESOURCES
Students that qualify for free or reduced lunch also qualify for PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP Exam fee waivers and college application fee waivers.
Even if you don’t qualify for free or reduced lunch, it still helps our school if every family fills out the meal application. All of our students benefit from the field trips, library/instructional materials, teachers, and staff funded with Title 1 money.
The meal application qualifies our students for more than just free or reduced lunch. Please fill it out! Deadline is October 6th!
