The Alt. Curriculum Special Day Program is a self-contained classroom that provides instruction with an emphasis on functional and daily living skills. Students engage in electives as well as community-based instruction and job programs.
To maximize student learning, Mild-Moderate Special Day Class settings provide a smaller class size than a typical General Education classroom and often have a paraprofessional to help meet student needs and facilitate small-group lessons.
Autism Core Program
Students with an eligibility of autism and in the Special Day Program, have the option to enroll in a communications skills class that pair students with their “typical” peers to develop communication skills. Projects that allow students to engage with one another occur weekly, along with executive functioning skills.
Grade-level content standards and curriculum provide the foundation for all instruction. In collaboration with the general education teacher, the resource specialist teacher implements a program of student support consisting of an array of services.
